Negotiating a contract can be tricky – especially when it comes to Hollywood careers.
Sometimes things just don’t work out, leaving an actor to determine if he wants to fight for what he’s worth or simply walk away from a project altogether.

Neve Campbell

Neve Campbell is an iconic part of the Shout out franchise, but she recently announced that she would not be appearing in scream 6 because the offer she received was not what she expected.
“As a woman, I have had to work very hard in my career to establish my worth, especially when it comes to Shout out“, Neve said in a statement. “I felt that the offer presented to me did not match the value it brought to the franchise. It was a very difficult decision to move forward. to all my Shout out fans, I love you. You’ve always been incredibly supportive. I am eternally grateful to you and what this franchise has given me over the last 25 years.”

When Charlize Theron found out she was being paid less for her role in The hunter, despite sharing equal billing with her co-star Chris Hemsworth, she knew she had to speak up. When it came time to negotiate contracts for the sequel, Charlize asked for more – and the studio agreed!
“I have to give them credit because once I asked they said yes,” Charlize told Elle UK “They didn’t fight it. to bring this to a place of justice, and girls need to know that being a feminist It’s a good thing. It doesn’t mean you hate men. It means equal rights. If you’re doing the same job, you should be compensated and treated the same.”

Jessica Chastain says she turned down projects when she wasn’t being equally matched with her male counterparts. While she didn’t specify which films she walked away from, she says it helped her “create a boundary” that educates other people “on how to treat you”.
“There was something huge that I recently turned down,” Jessica told Variety. “For me, it wasn’t about the money; it was an old-fashioned pay gap problem. I turned it down, and they didn’t come back. I remember afterwards I was like, ‘What did I do? Maybe it was a mistake. But it wasn’t, because everyone in the studio system heard what I did. So what you’re doing is creating a reputation: don’t bring Jessica something where she’s not being fairly compensated compared to the male actor.”

Octavia Spencer

Octavia Spencer advocated for a higher salary in a film after being encouraged by Jessica Chastain. She explained that as the pair talked about the pay gap, Octavia mentioned the pay discrepancies faced by women of color. Jessica immediately helped Octavia act, and the women fought for equal pay on a project they were working on together.
“I love this woman because she’s walking down the street and she’s actually speaking her mind,” Octavia said on a panel at the Sundance Film Festival. “She said, ‘Octavia, we’re going to pay you in this movie… You and I are going to be together. We’re going to be favored nations, and we’re going to do the same thing.’ Fast forward to last week, we’re doing five times what we asked for.”

Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller says she had to turn down several roles during her career because she didn’t feel like she was being paid fairly. At one point, she was offered a role in a Broadway production where she and a male actor were the only ones on stage. When the team refused to pay the same as her counterpart, she refused.
“It was a play with just the two of us on stage and I was offered less than half of what he was going to get,” Sienna told Vogue. “If it were two men, it probably wouldn’t happen. Sad, but I left.”
Later in her career, she asked for a higher salary before signing her role in 21 bridges. The movie studio turned her down and she nearly dropped out of the project – until her co-star Chadwick Boseman stepped in to donate part of her salary so she could be paid fairly.

Patricia Arquette

Despite the fact that Patricia Arquette once gave a powerful Oscar acceptance speech where she called for equal pay for women, she says she kept getting unfair offers from the studios. In fact, she had to walk away from movies where she wasn’t being fairly compensated. On one project, which she didn’t name, she says she was offered an entirely different pay structure than her male co-star, even though both were Oscar winners.
“I walked away from a lot of jobs because they were giving me really dumb deals that were really shit and different from men in a really fucked up way,” Patricia said. The Daily Beast.

Julie Delpy

Julie Delpy had to fight for equal pay for her role in Before trilogy. Is it over there explained that in the first film, she earned a tenth of her costar Ethan Hawke’s salary. When it came time for the second film, she managed to negotiate up to half of Ethan’s salary. And before filming the final film in the trilogy, Julie threatened to leave unless she was paid equally.
“I said, ‘Listen up guys. If I don’t get paid, I’m not doing this,'” Julie said. Variety.

In the midst of Emmy Rossum’s nine seasons in Shameless, she fought for her salary to match that of the show’s male lead, William H. Macy. After lengthy contract negotiations, she received what she considered fair compensation — especially considering she spent seven seasons on less than William.
“I will say the person who supported me the most was William H. Macy,” Emmy told The Hollywood Reporter. “Having the male colleague on my show say ‘Yes, she deserves that and more’ was so valid. And once it went public, it was a quick resolution.”

Lauren Cohan

Lauren Cohan was part of the cast of Living Dead for nearly a decade, and as she negotiated her contract for a ninth season, she realized it was time to go. Amid the months-long contract renegotiation, AMC reportedly sent “lowball” offers, and she says the whole process surprised her.
“I kind of felt kind of surprised, to be honest with you,” Lauren told EW. “And I took that, how perplexed I was, and I thought, ‘Okay, well, that’s a sign. Maybe this isn’t an adjustment anymore.’ To feel like we weren’t aligned in so many ways, I just thought, “Okay, well, maybe that means something.”
Despite initially leaving, Lauren returned to the show.

Hilary Duff

When Hilary Duff was a teenager, her team was in talks for a sequel. Lizzie McGuire movie. Hilary’s mother Susan took part in the finances, explaining that Hilary deserved the $500,000 bonus Disney had promised her right away. Disney did not agree and completely withdrew its offer for the film and Hilary walked away from any future. Lizzie projects with the company.
“Disney thought they would be able to force us to accept any offer they wanted to make, and they couldn’t,” Susan told EW. “We walked away from a sequel. They walked away from a franchise… We weren’t feeling the love. They weren’t giving Hilary the respect she deserved.”

the good wife The star, Julianna Margulies, was asked to reprise her role in the show’s spin-off series, The Good Fight, but she ended up leaving when she wouldn’t be fairly compensated. Julianna says “the deal didn’t happen” because “CBS wouldn’t pay her”.
“The showrunners found a good way to reintroduce my character, a story that was supposed to span three episodes,” Julianna said. “I was very excited about the idea, but CBS refused to pay my (order).”
