Thor: Love and Thunder hit Hollywood on Thursday for the world premiere of the latest Marvel Studios movie, and the first reactions are coming.
Official reviews don’t arrive until July 5th, so this is the first glimpse of what the public is saying. It’s worth noting that reactions to premieres are often more enthusiastic than critics’ projections.
The project brings together Thor: Ragnarok filmmaker Taika Waititi with star Chris Hemsworth for a tale that pits Thor against Gorr the Butcher of God, a villain played by Christian Bale who is determined to wipe out the gods of the galaxy. Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster returns to the franchise for the first time since Thor: The Dark World (2013) and this time will wield the power of Thor. The film also stars Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and actors from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, including Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista.
love and thunder comes as the Marvel brand expanded into streaming with Disney+, with several series arriving this year, including current streaming lady marvel. On the big screen, the studio released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness less than two months ago, with the project behind Top Gun: Maverick as the second highest-grossing film of the year to date. The studio also has Black Panther: Wakanda Forever should come out on the big screen later this year.
love and thunder hits theaters on July 7th.

Another classic Thor adventure! #ThorLoveAndThunder It’s everything I wanted it to be. Big, colorful and weird battles powered by Guns N’ Roses with a hopelessly romantic story about finding love in unexpected places. Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are especially great. And Korg! pic.twitter.com/fu0gTUuMRj

I saw #ThorLoveAndThunder. It might not match Ragnarok’s visuals or bombastic comedy, but Taika Waititi makes up for it with an emotionally mature Marvel movie. It’s also pretty funny (Natalie has jokes) and features one of the most impressive visual sequences in MCU history.

#ThorLoveAndThunder looks best when not desperately trying to recapture Ragnarok’s magic. Most of the humor doesn’t go down as well as the first time around, but Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale do their best with it.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER is a great rock moment with electrifying action, lots of laughs (the goats screaming!) and a deep story about absent gods and our desire for love. Natalie Portman makes a powerful return and Christian Bale rocks as the terrifying Gorr. The best Thor movie so far! pic.twitter.com/s42SkqxlJj

#ThorLoveAndThunder It’s the BIGGEST movie Marvel has made so far! I’m not kidding. I haven’t laughed as much since Ragnarok and I feel invested in Marvel again in a way I haven’t since Endgame. Also, bring tissues. The journey is *chef’s kiss* from start to finish!❤️ pic.twitter.com/bJYVxCJoQS

#ThorLoveAndThunder exceeds all expectations by balancing absolutely bombastic insanity with character-driven stories. Christian Bale is top notch and Natalie Portman is really excellent. Waititi May Have Just Delivered the Best MCU Phase 4 Movie #ThorLoveAndThunder pic.twitter.com/HDePEKKS8P

Thor: Love and Thunder is a fun, tight, and largely standalone Marvel adventure. If it’s not as big a surprise as Ragnarok, this is more evidence that Taika Waititi knows how to make Thor a blast. Heart/humor mix again for fun. #ThorLoveAndThunder pic.twitter.com/Bkxn5HJFQe

However, you can’t be that breath of fresh air twice, so you need to increase the emotional connection to the characters and plot. Watch Guardians movies. #ThorLoveAndThunder tries but can’t get it right, and seems strangely restrained, which is a shame. pic.twitter.com/KhE13qEc7x

holy crap. #ThorLoveandThunder It’s the perfect blend of taika at its best with comedy and a gut punch all rolled into one. I left this movie emotionally satisfied while also sobbing and just perfection. we stan a rock father soundtrack. in the words of my new favorite characters: AHH pic.twitter.com/MytduVq89h

If you, like me, enjoy watching Christian Bale swallow the scenery while devouring that black ink Danny DeVito had in Batman Returns, then #ThorLoveAndThunder and to you.

#ThorLoveAndThunder it’s a vivid, vibrant explosion it delivers. Hemsworth’s Thor remains a jewel in Marvel’s crown. Bale’s Gorr is a killer bogeyman that mixes the eccentric and the terrifying. Portman’s Foster and Thompson’s Valkyrie are a top-notch duo. Crowe’s Zeus is *the chef’s kiss* pic.twitter.com/PDb5SZRWOo

Wow!! #ThorLoveandThunder it’s great! The best entry in Phase 4 behind Shang-Chi and No Way Home. I laughed. Cry. So I laughed and cried some more, in that order. Natalie Portman is FINALLY due. Dr. Jane Foster is more than worthy of being the Mighty Thor.⚡️ pic.twitter.com/oOop89P1uf

#ThorLoveAndThunder has an Appetite For Destruction & laughs. It’s totally radical! Taika Waititi delivers a subversive and irreverent show. Great story, stakes and character building. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, superb.Russell Crowe and Christian Bale slip easily into the world pic.twitter.com/W7PUUXIfM5

#ThorLoveAndThunder It’s the funniest movie in the MCU. The jokes are excellent, as is the cast delivering them.
Christian Bale is obviously also terrifying as #hat

#ThorLoveAndThunder it’s predictably hilarious, but unexpectedly personal and heartfelt. Christian Bale and Natalie Portman’s performances really shine as Waititi delivers a gripping story. I think this might be my favorite Thor movie. pic.twitter.com/i7BpmQHvQ1

#ThorLoveAndThunder It’s all great about comic book movies! Truly hilarious insanity, heart-wrenching tragedy and bombastic action! Visually stunning and one of the best soundtracks in the MCU. The entire cast is fantastic, but Christian Bale and Natalie Portman are phenomenal! pic.twitter.com/dVkpf54fmP

#ThorLoveAndThunder it’s a solid take on the Mighty Thor comics – it’s great to see Natalie wielding the hammer and all that comes with it. Christian Bale is a top-tier MCU villain and Chris/Tessa are great as always. Another victory for Taika with humor, heart and a revelation of unmissable credits. pic.twitter.com/BGkXgCEyV9

#ThorLoveAndThunder it is absolutely AWESOME. It blows every other Marvel movie out of the water and doubles down on Ragnarok’s charm. One classic @Taika Waititi set, so many laughs and tears, with a moving narrative and beautiful visuals. And those post-credits? OH MY GOD. pic.twitter.com/41iuRXPf0O
— Therese Lacson (@bamfpire) June 24, 2022
Thor: Love and Thunder is very Taika Waititi! It’s wild, hilarious, action-packed and even dark. Christian Bale is phenomenal as Gorr and Tessa Thompson rocks! Get ready to love these goats! There aren’t enough Guardians (I’m partial to this). Average credit is FIRE! #ThorLoveAndThunder pic.twitter.com/JaRDUkAEcT

#ThorLoveAndThunder is a bright spot in a shaky stage 4 like Ragnarok redux, right down to his goofy humor and undercooked star as villain. Unconcerned with appearances and fan service, it feels like a tonic. Much better/funnier than the sum of your unimpressive marketing. pic.twitter.com/hwTLk8Chhs

#ThorLoveAndThunder has just established itself as one of my favorite MCU movies. Bursting with so much heart, emotion and sincerity, I cried, grinning from ear to ear. This film is a warm embrace and a call to cherish the present, live in the moment and do something that matters. I love this movie! pic.twitter.com/FYnwC2Gyqv

#ThorLoveAndThunder it’s electrifying! Chris Hemsworth is great as always, Natalie Portman has her time to shine and Russell Crowe as Zeus is hilarious. Stormbreaker needs its own movie! pic.twitter.com/8T3YepCUIg

I really enjoyed #ThorLoveAndThunder ! One of the funniest Marvel movies and surprisingly also one of the most sincere. Christian Bale stole the show for me as Gorr the God Butcher. Taika Waititi needs to direct every Thor movie now. pic.twitter.com/6rUxRxNQtD

#ThorLoveAndThunder It has very high highs and very low lows. It’s very Taika Waititi and it’s all over the place. That said, the second half is much better than the first and I really loved what Christian Bale brought to the table. Also, Natalie Portman is fantastic as expected. pic.twitter.com/NCCsDS7bj2

What a hurry! Thor: Love & Thunder is pure entertainment. It’s fun, emotional, it has moments of horror. Christian Bale is perfectly terrifying as Gorr. Natalie Portman is fantastic as the Mighty Thor. Chris Hemsworth is perfect. And goats are GOATS. #thor #ThorLoveAndThunder pic.twitter.com/u9QhIPh0G9

#TaikaWaititi It didn’t disappoint. I had a lot of fun watching it #ThorLoveAndThunder tonight. I brought my mini mjolnir with me. My storm breaker must be jealous😌I love seeing creatures and gods but it’s a love story at heart. The two goats are my favorites. They made me laugh so hard! pic.twitter.com/wURmGmfhra
