The Hollywood Walk of Fame now consists of more than 2,700 brass and five-pointed terrazzo stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce credits EM Stuart, the organization’s volunteer president in 1953, with the original idea to create a Walk of Fame. Stuart would have proposed WOF as a way to ‘maintain the glory of a community whose name means glamor and emotion in the four corners of the world’.
Making the list to receive a star does not always result in the person actually earning one. Each recipient has two years to schedule their ceremonies from the date of their selection, which means some of them may not receive their spot on or near Hollywood Boulevard until 2024.
Each nominee has a fee of US$50,000, which is normally paid by the nominating organization, to the Hollywood Historic Trust for the creation, installation and maintenance of the star.
