Tori Spelling’s daughter Stella McDermott is a high school graduate, a huge achievement in more ways than one, says the actress.
On Tuesday, 49 years Beverly Hills, 90210 alum celebrated the moment with a heartfelt post on Instagram.
“GRADUATES Stella McDermott!!” Spelling wrote next to a photo of 14-year-old Stella, a nod to her 90210 character Donna Martin, whose friends shouted “Donna Martin graduated!” as she protested school officials banning Donna from graduation for drinking during the dance.
Celebrating the “bittersweet” milestone, Spelling said the teen graduated despite all the obstacles she faced along the way.
“So proud of how hard she struggled to graduate between bullying, COVID, adversity, migraines, severe anxiety and sadly teachers and counselors who didn’t believe she could get it all done in time to graduate…she proved everyone was right. wrong!” added Spelling. “So beyond proud, but I still look at that stage and see my little buggy running around.”

The star – who also shares Liam Aaron, 15, Hattie Margaret, 10, Finn Davey, 9, and Beau Dean, 5, with husband Dean McDermott – hailed Stella’s “motivation” and “kind spirit”, telling her : “You can do absolutely anything you want to do! love you @stella_mcdermott08 with all my heart and soul bff.
In July, Spelling opened up about Stella’s “painful” experience of bullying and panic attacks. Spelling shared images from a photo shoot Stella did with Petite ‘n Pretty for the beauty brand’s back-to-school campaign. In the Instagram caption, Spelling explained why the moment was a triumph, recalling how her son felt bullied at school and eventually got over it.

“How Stella got her groove back…thanks @petitenpretty – Her first modeling session as a teenager,” began Spelling. “Stella is an amazing human. Heart of gold and always leads with kindness. She is innovative, creative and full of fire. That’s why, as a mother, it was so painful to see a young girl’s fire diminished because of bullying.”
She shared that Stella was bullied in fifth grade, but the “boy who bullied her and other girls and boys hasn’t been stopped”, adding that they even felt bullied by a staff member at their formal school.

She talked about Stella’s dreams of one day opening her bakery, telling her that Stella had the opportunity to run. master cookhowever, Stella’s principal at the time refused to sign a mandatory release “because her children miss school so much”.
The spelling said after “begging[ging]”, the principal changed her mind on one condition: that Stella and Spelling’s other children drop out of the school, which they had attended since kindergarten, the following year.

“I tearfully agreed so Stella could do Master Chef. Well, Stella WON!! I’ve never seen her confidence like I did that day! [fire] was back. This is the lesson we must teach! To encourage our children to find their individual passions and thrive!” recalled Spelling.
She added that “unfortunately, the principal followed through to the end” and Stella “would never graduate with her gang. I wish I had the strength to challenge them! I received a note from 90210 ‘Stella McDermott Graduates!’ But, I didn’t. Power and $ won. But thanks @petitenpretty Stella got her powerful and satisfying ‘school’ moment! Her confidence is now soaring!”
