WWE Raw Results, Recap, Notes: Carmella Wins Raw Women’s Title Opportunity at Money in the Bank

With just a few weeks to go before the Money in the Bank event, WWE did a lot of heavy lifting during Raw on Monday night. At the time of the headline, it was announced that Rhea Ripley was not medically cleared for her planned title match against Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, leaving a large spot to be filled.

Carmella would be the woman to get the newly available opportunity, winning a fatal five-way to kick off the show and cement her spot in the title fight on July 2 in Las Vegas.

Another title match was added to Money in the Bank, with Bobby Lashley defeating Chad Gable, Otis, and Theory in one night to earn a United States title shot from Theory at the next event.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Bianca Belair welcomes new challenger to the Money in the Bank title

Bianca Belair opened the show with an announcement that Rhea Ripley was not medically cleared for her Money in the Bank match for Belair’s Raw Women’s Title. Belair then announced that Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Carmella, Asuka and Becky Lynch would compete at the end of the night for a title shot at Money in the Bank. This led to the expected parade of interruptions from the women involved in the match.

Carmela def. Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Asuka and Becky Lynch via pinfall after hitting Morgan with a superkick. The win puts Carmella in the Raw women’s title match at Money in the Bank. Of note, Carmella was the inaugural winner of a Women’s Money in the Bank match, making the event something of her “trademark show”.

Carmella made some sense as to choosing to face Belair here. Her presence is not required in the ladder fight at Money in the Bank and she is legit enough, given her history, to be a good late replacement challenger. A title challenge from Carmella probably won’t get anyone excited or bring out the same feeling of a potential title change that Ripley provided, but sometimes you just need a patch to get over a hole left by an injury. That’s what Carmela is. Serie B-
